Dianna Frid is an artist working at the intersection of material texts and textiles. Her artist’s books and mixed-media works make visible the tactile manifestations of language. Frid was born in Mexico where she was first exposed to textiles as complex codes of material writing. Based in Chicago, Frid exhibits her work in the USA and abroad. She is Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Art Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Carla Nappi is the Andrew W. Mellon Chair in History and Co-Director of the Humanities Center at the University of Pittsburgh. She is author of The Monkey and the Inkpot: Natural History and its Transformations in Early Modern China (2009) and Translating Early Modern China: Illegible Cities (2021), and co-author of Metagestures (2019, w/ Dominic Pettman) and Uninvited: Talking Back to Plato (2020, w/ Carrie Jenkins). Ian Truelove is the Course Director for MA Graphic Design and BA Illustration at Leeds Beckett University. His research, which is predominately technology-led, is informed by philosophy, quantum theory and art history, and explores the nature of material reality through creative practice. Ian is currently investigating the potential for using virtual and augmented reality technologies in a variety of creative contexts. His VR artworks are available on the Steam platform.
